What
is a solar electric or photovoltaic (PV) system?
Photovoltaic
is a combination of two words, photo and voltaic.
The prefix photo means “produced by light”,
and the suffix voltaic means “electricity
produced by a chemical reaction”. Together,
PV or Photovoltaic means “the production
of light into energy”. PV solar systems
convert light, or photons, into electricity, or
electrons.
PV panels were first developed in the mid 1950’s
by Bell Laboratories for NASA. Today PV solar
systems are used on all seven continents by homes,
businesses, farms, and is even used in space. They
are used in the harshest of climates, remote locations
and for demanding applications. This renewable
energy is environmentally safe with zero pollution.
All components are UL listed and certified, which
makes them very reliable. The cell life exceeds
30 years with 25 year warranties.
