What
features should my PV system have?
Some PV systems use
batteries to provide back-up power to your home
or business in case of utility grid outages. While
batteries certainly add value to your system,
they also add cost and maintenance. Keep in mind
that batteries and other electricity storage devices
are not covered under most incentives. You should
also consider the “economies of scale”
associated with your system, which means that
a larger system costs less per KWh generated,
even though it costs more overall. You are likely
to receive a better price to install a two KW
system all at once rather than one KW this year
and one kW next year because multiple orders and
multiple site visits are more expensive. On the
other hand, putting a system together in this
“modular” fashion may be more attractive
financially, as it allows a pay-as-you-go approach.
