Where is a good place for a wind turbine system?
Wind turbine systems can be used to create power for small applications like a residential home or larger commercial systems with many wind turbines working together to create a lot of energy. A small scale wind turbine system will require, at the minimum, one acre of property and a 14-mile-per-hour annual average wind speed in order to produce enough energy to power the average home in the U.S. Aside from space needed and wind speed requirements local regulations may be in place. Before investing in a wind turbine system it is a necessity to check local height restrictions allowed in residentially zoned areas. Information regarding zoning, height restrictions, and other city ordinances that one must comply with can be obtained by contacting your local building inspector, board of supervisors, or planning board. They will be able to inform you of city regulations and provide you with a list of requirements, which may include obtaining building permits. Wind turbines can be mounted on rooftops but be aware that all wind turbines vibrate and the transmission of the vibrations to the structure where they are mounted can lead to noise and some structure problems may occur.
