How does wind turbine technology work?
Wind is created by the unequal heating of the earth’s surface by the sun. Wind that is intercepted by the wind turbine converts the kinetic energy created by the wind into power that runs a generator to create clean energy. Wind turbines made today have an aerodynamic design that allows for maximum energy to be captured by the blades of the system. Wind turbine blades are made of a composite material such as fiberglass. Power produced by the wind turbine depend mostly on the size of the rotor, larger blades intercept more wind which in turn creates more energy. The rotor, generator, and tail are attached to the frame of the wind turbine; the tail on the system is used to keep the turbine facing in the direction of the wind. The speed of wind increases with height, because of this wind turbine systems are mounted on a tower, the taller the tower is the more clean energy a wind turbine system will produce.
